Martin Spurling Member

Martin is a Group General Manager of the HSBC Group and in September 2015 became the Chief Remediation Officer for HSBC Mexico.  Prior to his role in Mexico, Martin was the Head of Retail Banking & Wealth Management for Europe, Middle East & Africa for one year, following four years as the CEO of HSBC Turkey.

He has over 25 years of experience with HSBC as an International Manager in retail, corporate, private, treasury and investment banking.  During this time he has worked in Australia, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Taiwan, Jersey and Turkey, and is now based in HSBC’s headquarters in UK.

Martin also serves on the boards of Saudi British Bank, HSBC Saudi Arabia Ltd, HSBC Turkey (as Deputy Chairman), and Junior Achievement Europe.  In Turkey he was also on the Association of Banks’ Turkey Board, the Prime Ministers’ UK-Turkey CEO Forum, where he was also Co-Chair of the Finance Working Group, and he was an alternate board member of the International Investors Association of Turkey (YASED).

Before becoming the CEO of HSBC Turkey in 2010, Martin was the CEO of HSBC Expat and HSBC UK’s Offshore Islands, which included private banking businesses based out of Jersey and Guernsey, as well as the local banking businesses in the UK Offshore Islands.  Prior to this he was the Deputy CEO for HSBC in Pakistan and in Taiwan.

The international theme continues at home where Martin is married to an American and has two sons, born in Hong Kong and Pakistan.

Martin has a bachelor’s degree from Durham University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Financial Services.

Personal time is prioritised on family, adventurous travelling, snow and water skiing, sailing and attending the theatre.
