Supporting Entrepreneurship Education in Eastern Europe

25 April 2017

The Official Opening Round Table of the project “Supporting Entrepreneurship Education in Eastern Europe” took place in Tirana, Albania on April 21, 2017.

This 3-year project is supported by USAID with the aim to prepare young people with skills and competences they will need to succeed in a global economy. 100,000 young people in Serbia, Georgia, Macedonia and Moldova will benefit.

The project will include practical entrepreneurial experiences in schools, teacher training and peer-learning activities bringing together key stakeholders in the field in order to mainstream entrepreneurship education in these countries.

A unique aspect of the project is cross-border mentoring from mature JA organizations (Albania, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia), as well as regular multi-country and multi-stakeholder events like this round table in Albania. It is a question of shifting young mind sets from that of “job seeker” to “job creator”. Serbia, Georgia, Macedonia and Moldova, like all emerging economies, are hungry for talent and dependent on cultivating innovation and new business opportunities. “Brain drain” is a significant problem and, according to the International Labour Organization, young women’s participation in the labour market is persistently lower than men’s by as much as 20%.

The event was an opportunity to bring in a broad range of perspectives and expertise, from the situation in Albania, to the surrounding region and to the learnings from Europe. On this point: the European Entrepreneurship Education NETwork (EE-HUB) led by JA Europe is a focal point for entrepreneurship education in Europe, bringing together experts at national and European level working collectively to increase levels of entrepreneurial activities in schools across Europe.

We want to express our gratitude to JA Albania, for hosting this Round Table and to all speakers:
